Welcome to our continuing series of highlighting the top road biking and cycling spots around America. Today, we're excited to take you on a journey through the breathtaking Copper Triangle, a popular road biking destination located in the heart of Colorado. Whether you're an experienced cyclist or just starting out, this iconic route offers stunning views, challenging climbs, and unforgettable memories.
The Copper Triangle is a 78-mile loop that starts and finishes in the charming town of Frisco, Colorado. The route takes cyclists through three of Colorado's most scenic mountain passes: Fremont Pass, Tennessee Pass, and Vail Pass. The elevation gain for the entire loop is around 5,000 feet, making it a challenging but rewarding ride.
As you make your way through the Copper Triangle, you'll be surrounded by towering mountain peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and lush forests. The ride starts with a steady climb up Fremont Pass, followed by a thrilling descent into the town of Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the United States.
From Leadville, the route heads to the top of Tennessee Pass, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The descent into the town of Minturn is fast and fun, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
The final climb of the Copper Triangle is up Vail Pass, which reaches an elevation of over 10,000 feet. The climb is challenging, but the stunning views of the Vail Valley make it all worthwhile. Once you reach the summit, it's a thrilling descent back into Frisco, where you can relax and recharge after an unforgettable ride.
